What’s New With the Galaxy S26? Samsung Skips the Plus Variant in 2025

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge was the company’s response to the rising demand for sleeker, more compact smartphones. After teasing the device multiple times, Samsung officially unveiled it on May 13 , though many assumed it was just another addition to the standard S-series lineup.

However, reports from earlier this year suggested that Samsung had a different plan in mind — one that could reshape how we see the Galaxy S series going forward.

🔁 The End of the ‘Plus’ Model?

According to insider sources, Samsung considered the S25 Edge as a potential replacement for the traditional ‘Plus’ model in its flagship lineup. Despite offering more features than the standard model, the Plus version consistently underperformed in sales compared to other variants — making it an easy candidate for removal.

This strategy appears to be gaining momentum, especially with the upcoming release of the Galaxy S26 series , expected around early 2026.

📐 Galaxy S26 Series Lineup Revealed (Almost)

Recent reports from The Elec indicate that Samsung has already begun finalizing plans for three models in the next generation:

  • Galaxy S26 (Standard)
  • Galaxy S26 Edge (Slim Variant)
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra (Premium Flagship)

Each model is expected to feature curved displays and rounded corners, continuing Samsung’s signature design language.

As for display sizes:

  • Galaxy S26 : ~6.27 inches (slightly larger than the S25)
  • Galaxy S26 Edge : ~6.66 inches
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra : ~6.89 inches

Interestingly, even the base model is growing in size, signaling the end of truly “compact” flagship phones.

📸 Camera Upgrades for the Galaxy S26 Ultra

Trusted source WinFuture recently shared details about the camera setup for the top-tier S26 Ultra , confirming:

  • 200MP main camera
  • 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom

This reinforces Samsung’s focus on high-end photography features in its Ultra model.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S26 Edge is expected to retain a 50MP ultrawide camera , similar to the current S25 Edge , suggesting a more streamlined approach across mid-tier and premium models.
