What’s New in Windows 11: Improved Settings, Recall Page, and More
Microsoft kicked off the week by rolling out two nearly identical builds for Windows Insiders : Build 26200.5661 (Dev Channel) and Build 26120.4452 (Beta Channel) . These updates bring a few notable features and improvements, including a redesigned Recall home page and new customization options for system indicators .
Let’s take a closer look at what’s new in these latest releases.
🏠 A More Personalized Recall Home Page
One of the biggest additions is the updated home page for Recall , which now offers a more tailored experience to help users quickly return to recent activities.
The new layout includes:
- Your most recent snapshots
- A curated list of your top three apps and websites from the past 24 hours
- A newly added navigation bar on the left side with quick access to:
- Home
- Timeline
- Feedback
- Settings
This update aims to make navigating through Recall faster and more intuitive — especially for users who rely heavily on this feature to track their workflow.
🔧 Customize Where System Indicators Appear
Another major change is the ability to adjust where system indicators appear on your screen . Previously, these pop-ups (such as volume or brightness controls) only showed up in a fixed position. Now, you can choose between:
- Top-left corner
- Top-center
To change this setting:
- Go to Settings > System > Notifications
- Look for the option labeled “Position of the onscreen pop-up”
This small but useful tweak gives users more control over how their desktop environment behaves.
📦 Other Improvements and Fixes
🔘 Start Menu
- Added a Boolean setting to the “Configure Start Pins” policy, allowing administrators to apply pinned apps once during setup.
- Users can then customize their layout while keeping those admin-applied pins intact.
📁 File Explorer
- Restarting the rollout of AI-powered actions in File Explorer that were briefly removed in earlier Beta Channel builds.
⚙️ Settings
- The country or region selected during setup is now displayed under Settings > Time & language > Language & region .
🛠️ What Was Fixed
- Resolved the issue where the Windows Vista boot sound played instead of the correct Windows 11 startup chime.
- Fixed a bug that prevented users from resetting their PC via Settings > System > Recovery .
- Addressed an underlying problem causing some KVM virtual machines to fail with the error “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR.”
- In the Dev build, also fixed reports of repeated KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE crashes after upgrading.
⚠️ Known Issues in the Latest Builds
🔄 General
- After a PC reset , the build version might incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120 — future updates will resolve this.
- Some users may encounter a rollback error (0x80070005) when installing the update.
🧾 Start Menu
- Touch navigation in the new Start menu isn’t fully reliable yet (e.g., swipe-up gesture not working).
- Limited drag-and-drop functionality from the “All” section to “Pinned.”
- Duplicate entries may appear inside folders.
🎮 Xbox Controllers
- Bluetooth-connected Xbox controllers may cause system crashes . As a workaround, uninstall the XboxGameControllerDriver.inf driver via Device Manager.
💬 Click to Do (Preview)
- On AMD or Intel Copilot+ PCs , users may experience long delays when using intelligent text actions after updating.
🧠 File Explorer AI Actions
- Narrator scan mode has issues reading bullet points in the Summarize AI action for Microsoft 365 files. Use Caps + Right Arrow as a temporary fix.
🪟 Widgets
- Pinning support in the new widgets board is still being worked on — pinning currently reverts to the older interface.
