
Ubuntu 25.10 Roadmap Revealed: What’s Coming Next
Canonical has shared more details about the upcoming Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka” , revealing a range of new features and improvements set for the October 2025 release.
The update will ship with GNOME 49 , featuring updated shell extensions, a refreshed interface, and modern default apps like the Loupe image viewer and Ptyxis terminal emulator .
Accessibility is also a key focus, as Canonical works to ensure compliance with the European Accessibility Act (EAA) , which takes effect in June 2025.
For NVIDIA GPU users, Ubuntu 25.10 will bring improved Wayland support in collaboration with GNOME and NVIDIA, offering better performance and stability. It will also include Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support in Mutter, enhancing visual smoothness for desktop and gaming experiences.
The release also marks deeper integration with Microsoft Entra ID , enabling direct device registration for enterprise environments.
Other planned changes include:
- Fully functional desktop sessions on RISC-V architecture
- Enhanced permission prompts for smoother UX
- Landscape integration in the installer for easier system management
- A revamped, more accessible documentation system
Ubuntu 25.10 will be a standard nine-month release and not an LTS, but it’s seen as a critical step ahead of the next long-term support version, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS .
