Tizen OS is gaining ground as Samsung pushes its smart TV operating system into new markets and partner devices

Samsung has taken a major step in expanding the reach of its Tizen operating system , announcing that it’s now licensing the platform to a growing list of international TV manufacturers. This expansion brings Tizen OS to smart TVs from brands like EKO and QBELL (Ayonz) in Australia and Europe, RCA (Grupo Kayve) in Mexico, RCA (Treasure Creek) in North America, and Axdia in Germany.

The company also hinted at plans to welcome even more partners in the second half of 2025, signaling a broader push to grow its software presence beyond Samsung-branded devices.

Delivering Performance and Innovation Through Partnership

In a statement, Jooyoung Kim, Vice President at Samsung Electronics , emphasized the value of Tizen OS:

“Tizen OS is recognized for its performance, reliability, and innovation. This year, we are focused on expanding our licensing program and creating diverse collaboration strategies for our key partners.”

He added that Samsung is committed to growing its global partner network by offering enhanced regional support, an improved app ecosystem, and tailored marketing tools — all aimed at delivering a premium user experience across different markets.

A Strategic Move Against Competitors

This move marks a significant shift in Samsung’s strategy as it looks to position Tizen OS as a serious competitor to platforms like Android TV and Roku TV . For consumers, this means greater choice when purchasing new smart TVs — with access to a feature-rich, high-performance operating system that’s already proven itself in Samsung’s own lineup.

What Tizen OS 8.0 Offers Partners

Licensed brands will initially gain access to Tizen OS 8.0 , which comes packed with smart features such as:

  • Advanced content discovery
  • Samsung TV Plus – a free streaming service with live TV channels
  • Samsung Gaming Hub – for cloud gaming without the need for extra hardware
  • SmartThings integration – for seamless control of connected home devices

These features allow third-party TV makers to offer a modern, connected experience without needing to develop their own platform from scratch.

Partner Testimonials Highlight Value of Tizen

Jonathan Vera, Head of Marketing & Communications at Grupo Kayve, praised the partnership:

“We are proud to expand our RCA TV portfolio across Mexico and Latin America through our partnership with Samsung’s Tizen OS. The Tizen team provides comprehensive technical and marketing support, enabling an agile go-to-market process.”

This endorsement highlights how Samsung isn’t just offering a software solution — it’s providing full-scale support to help partners succeed in competitive markets.

Why Is Samsung Doing This Now?

By opening up Tizen OS to third-party manufacturers, Samsung aims to become a leading provider of smart TV operating systems worldwide. This strategic decision allows the company to scale its ecosystem, attract new users, and offer affordable smart TV solutions without relying solely on its own brand.

Despite the expansion, Samsung remains committed to delivering what it calls an “open, robust, and premium smart TV experience” to consumers around the globe — positioning Tizen not just as an internal tool, but as a true platform for the future of smart entertainment.
