The iPhone 17 Pro’s display may still lag slightly behind the Galaxy S25 Ultra in terms of advanced features and specifications.

Rumors had suggested that Apple might finally introduce an anti-reflective display coating with the iPhone 16 series in 2024. However, those features were reportedly not included, pushing expectations to the iPhone 17 lineup instead. Recent reports now indicate that Apple may have abandoned plans for a scratch-resistant anti-reflective coating altogether, meaning the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will likely stick with standard Ceramic Shield glass.

Meanwhile, Samsung continues to lead in display innovation. The Galaxy S24 Ultra debuted an anti-reflective Gorilla Glass Armor developed with Corning, cutting screen glare by up to 75% compared to regular glass. This advantage carried over to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, offering superior outdoor visibility and accurate color reproduction even under direct sunlight — an area where the latest iPhone 16 Pro models still fall short.

While iPhones haven’t adopted such reflective-reducing tech yet, Apple does use nano-textured displays in some iPad Pro and MacBook models to cut glare. That feature, however, hasn’t made its way to the iPhone line just yet.

On a positive note, the iPhone 17 Pro models might still bring new display technology like Low-Dielectric TEE to improve battery efficiency. Additionally, the entire iPhone 17 series is expected to offer a 24MP front camera and 12GB RAM across models, except for the base variant.
