The End of Fortnite on iOS – Apple’s App Store Policies Win Out
The long-standing conflict between Apple and Epic Games has taken a new turn, with Fortnite officially blocked from returning to iOS in the U.S. , and now also removed for EU users .
Despite a recent court ruling that allowed developers to link external payment options, Apple rejected Epic’s latest submission of Fortnite to the App Store. The rejection comes after Epic tried to re-enter using its European developer account following the termination of its U.S. account back in 2020.
As a result, Fortnite is no longer available via the Epic Games Store for iOS and iPadOS users in Europe , where it had briefly returned last year through alternative distribution methods like AltStore PAL.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney criticized Apple on social media, accusing the company of stifling competition and preventing games like Fortnite from functioning freely. His comments were followed by the removal of a game dubbed “Fort Battle Royale Epic Shoot” from the App Store — likely a direct response.
This marks another setback for players hoping to return to Fortnite on Apple devices, leaving them to continue playing via Android, PC, consoles, or cloud services.
