Telegram and X AI Team Up to Bring Grok AI to Over a Billion Users
Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, has announced a new collaboration with Elon Musk’s xAI team to bring the Grok AI into Telegram this summer. In a recent post, Durov described the one-year partnership as a way to deliver “the best AI technology on the market” directly to Telegram’s more than one billion users.
A promotional video shared alongside the announcement gave a preview of Grok’s upcoming features within Telegram:
- Integrated Search : Grok will be available directly from the app’s search bar — no need to switch apps.
- Dedicated Chat : Users will get a special chat thread for Grok, keeping different conversations organized.
- Smart Text Editing : Grok will help generate and rewrite text, summarize long messages or documents, and offer insights about links.
- Moderation & Management : The AI will assist in moderating group chats, managing business conversations, and fact-checking posts in public channels.
- Creative Features : Grok will also support creative tasks like generating static and animated stickers and custom avatars.
Financial Details of the Partnership
According to Durov, the deal includes $300 million in cash and equity for Telegram. Both companies will share revenue equally from xAI subscriptions sold through Telegram.
Privacy Concerns?
Telegram has built its reputation on strong privacy policies, so questions naturally arose about how user data would be handled. When asked whether user data would be shared with xAI for training, Durov responded clearly:
“No, this has not been discussed.”
Telegram Premium Hits 15 Million Subscribers
In a separate post, Durov revealed that Telegram Premium now has over 15 million paid subscribers , double the number from just one year ago. This growth reflects increasing demand for exclusive features like advanced chat organization, larger file transfers, and ad-free experiences.
