PS5 Now Lets You Buy Games Using Apple Pay — Here’s How It Works
PlayStation 5 users can now complete purchases in the PlayStation Store using Apple Pay , thanks to a recent system software update.
When making a purchase, the PS5 displays a QR code that you can scan with your iPhone or iPad. From there, you can authenticate and complete the transaction using Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode — no need to manually enter card details.
Before this update, Apple Pay could only be used on the PS5 through the built-in browser or the PlayStation mobile app for iOS. Now, Apple Pay is integrated directly into the console’s native purchasing flow , streamlining the process and improving user experience.
While many PlayStation users already have a credit card linked to their account, this change is especially handy for Apple Card holders , who can now easily earn the 2% daily cashback when buying games or subscriptions like PlayStation Plus.
This new Apple Pay functionality was made possible by an update in iOS 18 , which introduced support for using Apple Pay in third-party browsers like Chrome and Firefox on macOS and iPadOS. That same tech now powers the QR-based Apple Pay option on the PS5.
