New Windows 11 Update Addresses Battery Indicator Issues

This week’s Friday Windows 11 preview build 27909 arrives from the Canary Channel, focusing primarily on bug fixes and general improvements rather than introducing new features. Windows 11 Insiders can expect several targeted fixes designed to enhance system stability and user experience.

Key Fixes in This Build

Administrator Protection Resolution A significant fix addresses an underlying issue that prevented the Xbox app from launching when administrator protection was enabled. This problem may have affected other applications as well, causing error codes 0xC0000142 or 0xC0000045.

Settings Battery Display Correction Users will notice the return of battery percentage display at the top of System > Power & Battery settings, resolving an issue where this information was unexpectedly missing in recent builds.

Remote Desktop Enhancement The build resolves extreme graphical distortion and rendering problems experienced when using remote desktop on Arm64 PCs, improving connectivity for users of these devices.

Additional Stability Improvements

  • Fixed a high-impact pcasvc.dll crash from the previous build
  • Resolved casting disconnection issues in Media Player
  • Addressed Remote Credential Guard failures between Windows 11 builds and Server 2022 (and below)

Notable Known Issues

Copilot+ PC Warning Users transitioning to the Canary Channel on new Copilot+ PCs from other channels may lose Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in capabilities, encountering error 0xd0000225. Affected users can recreate their PIN through the “Set up my PIN” option.

System Stability Concerns A small number of Insiders may experience repeated KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE bugchecks after upgrading, particularly when connecting to VPN services.

Audio Nostalgia In an unexpected twist, this build plays the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the standard Windows 11 audio. Microsoft has indicated this nostalgic touch will be corrected in future Canary Channel flights.

Ongoing Investigation Areas

Microsoft is currently investigating two Settings-related issues:

  • Potential crashes when interacting with Power & Battery options
  • Display problems where apostrophes appear as random characters in Settings text

Availability and Participation

The build is available to Windows 11 Insiders enrolled in the Canary Channel, continuing Microsoft’s commitment to early testing and feedback collection through its Insider Preview program.
