New rumors suggest titanium backplate upgrade for upcoming Galaxy Z Fold models
As Samsung prepares for its upcoming Unpacked event — expected to host the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 — new rumors suggest the tech giant is also working on an affordable Z Flip7 FE and even a triple-folding smartphone , tentatively called the Galaxy G Fold .
According to a recent report by The Elec , Samsung is considering the use of a titanium backplate in both the Z Fold7 and the upcoming G Fold , aiming to make them lighter, thinner, and more durable. This would not be the first time Samsung uses titanium in foldables — it previously introduced a titanium hinge in the Z Fold6 SE , available exclusively in South Korea and China.
Titanium offers high strength with minimal weight, making it ideal for structural support in foldable phones. The material is primarily used in the internal hinge area to reinforce the display and folding mechanism. Despite being harder to manufacture, Samsung sees it as a key component in reducing overall thickness.
Additionally, there are reports that Samsung might remove the digitizer layer added in the Z Fold3 to support the S Pen, potentially allowing for an even slimmer build. Some sources also hint at the possible adoption of Apple Pencil-like technology , which could further optimize space inside the device.
In terms of design, the Z Fold7 is expected to be slightly taller and wider than its predecessor, while featuring narrower bezels for a more modern look and improved grip.
