Microsoft Surprises Gamers with New Retro Classics App on Game Pass
In an unexpected move, Microsoft has launched the Retro Classics app — a new addition to Xbox Game Pass that brings dozens of classic Activision titles to modern consoles. The app focuses on games from the 1980s and 1990s, giving players a nostalgic trip back to gaming’s early days.
Developed in collaboration with Antstream Arcade , the Retro Classics app is available at no extra cost to all Game Pass subscribers. While browsing, users can sort games by a variety of retro platforms, including the original PlayStation — a nod to their vintage origins. Microsoft also hinted that more titles may be added in the future.
Each game supports both controller and keyboard input , and includes helpful features like play instructions , daily challenges , and even achievements to unlock.

“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to game preservation and backward compatibility, giving players the chance to enjoy classic titles on today’s devices,” the company added.
The Retro Classics app is now available on PC, Xbox consoles, and all cloud-supported platforms — including smart TVs, VR headsets, and more — as part of Game Pass.
