Microsoft Enhances Copilot with AI-Powered Image Creation
Microsoft has introduced advanced image generation capabilities to Copilot , nearly two months after OpenAI launched a similar feature in ChatGPT using the GPT-4o model . The update allows users to create high-quality images from text prompts, edit existing visuals, and generate variations based on uploaded photos — all while leveraging real-time context and chat history for more accurate results.
Since its launch, the GPT-4o-powered image generator in ChatGPT went viral, with over 130 million users creating 700 million images in just one week . Microsoft’s rollout now brings comparable functionality to Copilot, including support for text rendering , style transformation , and complex prompt interpretation .
While this marks a major enhancement for Copilot, Microsoft is still playing catch-up with features already available on competing platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini . At its recent 50th-anniversary event, the company announced several updates aimed at improving Copilot’s usefulness — though many were seen as reactive rather than innovative.
