Microsoft Confirms Readiness to Comply with EU Rules

The company promised to comply with the requirements of the European Union

Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith told the European Commission that the company would abide by all EU rules, even if it did not agree with them. European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera confirmed that Microsoft had committed to complying with European rules.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced it would sell its Teams chat and video calling app separately from its Office suite worldwide. The move comes six months after the company unbundled the products in Europe to avoid a potential fine from EU antitrust regulators.

The dispute with Microsoft began in 2019, when Salesforce, the owner of Slack, filed a complaint with the European Commission. It claimed that Microsoft had improperly linked Teams to Office, which limited competition in the market. In 2023, German company alfaview filed a similar complaint.
