Google is preparing a major update

Google is working on a major redesign of the Android interface that will debut in 2025. According to leaks from Android 16 Beta 4 published by Android Authority, the new version of the system will receive an updated design called Material Design 3 Expressive. The main focus is on the background blur effect that will appear in the quick settings panel, app drawer, and PIN entry screen, creating a “matte” look.

The notification and quick settings panel will remain unified, but will become more convenient: customizable tile sizes, quick Wi-Fi and Bluetooth switches, and a simplified taskbar editor will appear. The volume control will also be updated: thick sliders will be replaced by thin ones with clear handles, corresponding to the new Material Design “standards”. The blur effect will also add aesthetics, although it may reduce contrast, experts write.
