Google Gemini Now Turns Photos into 8-Second Videos Using Veo 3

Google has taken another big step in the AI-generated media space with its latest update to Gemini , now allowing users to convert static images into 8-second videos using the newly enhanced Veo 3 model .

This announcement came shortly after Google expanded access to Veo 3 to more than 150 countries , including mobile users and subscribers of Google AI Pro . Since its launch, over 40 million videos have been created across the Gemini app and Flow platform — showing strong early adoption of the tool.

🖼️ How to Turn a Photo Into a Video with Gemini

If you’re a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscriber , here’s how you can use this new feature:

  1. Open the Gemini app .
  2. Tap on the prompt box and select ‘Videos’ from the tools menu.
  3. Upload your photo by tapping the ‘+’ button .
  4. Enter instructions describing the scene and desired audio.
  5. Gemini will generate an 8-second video based on your input.
  6. You can then download or share the video directly from the app.

To ensure transparency, all videos generated via Gemini are marked with:

  • A visible watermark indicating they were created using AI.
  • An invisible SynthID watermark , which helps prevent unauthorized modifications or misuse.

🌍 Expanding Reach and Engagement

Since the Google I/O 2025 event, where Veo 3 was first introduced, Google has steadily rolled out the technology to more regions and platforms. As of late May , the model became available to mobile users in several countries, and last week saw a broader expansion for AI Pro subscribers worldwide .

Despite these efforts, Gemini hasn’t yet reached the level of virality seen with competitors like ChatGPT , especially with features such as Studio Ghibli-style image generation. However, this new photo-to-video capability could be the breakthrough Google is looking for.

Even Sundar Pichai , CEO of Google, shared an example of the feature on X (formerly Twitter), showing how he imagined the company’s mascot dinosaur roaming the campus.

📣 Is This the Viral Moment Gemini Needs?

While Google continues to promote Gemini through employee advocacy and social media campaigns, it’s still early days in terms of widespread user excitement. That said, the new photo-to-video feature has serious potential to go viral — especially as users begin experimenting with creative inputs and sharing their results online.

The feature is currently rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in select countries , with plans to expand further in the coming months.
