Google Gemini Enters the AI Race with Its New ‘Scheduled Actions’ Capability

Earlier this year in January, OpenAI introduced a new automation feature in ChatGPT that allows users to schedule tasks. This update enables users to set up automatic prompts and receive regular updates or alerts based on predefined schedules.

Currently, the feature is available for the GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 mini models and can be accessed through the web version of ChatGPT as well as its iOS, Android, and macOS apps.

For example, users can ask ChatGPT to send them a daily summary of tech news at 8 AM or set a reminder for a friend’s birthday on June 10th.

🔵 Google Responds with Gemini’s ‘Scheduled Actions’

In a recent move, Google has launched a similar function for Gemini users called Scheduled Actions . The functionality works much like ChatGPT’s scheduled tasks — allowing users to assign Gemini to perform actions at specific times using either text or voice input.

Users also have the option to create recurring actions, making it easier to automate repetitive tasks. All scheduled actions can be managed directly from the app settings.

This feature is currently available to subscribers of Google AI Pro , Ultra , and for users on Google Workspace business and education plans .

🟠 Comparing Limits and Management Options

At the moment, ChatGPT allows users to run up to 10 active tasks simultaneously. Once this limit is reached, users must pause or delete an existing task to add a new one.

As for Gemini, Google hasn’t yet announced any official limits on the number of scheduled actions. However, it’s expected that users will eventually have similar flexibility in managing their tasks.

⚪ The Future of AI Assistant Automation

As both platforms continue to develop their automation tools, scheduled actions are becoming a key feature in how people interact with AI assistants. These tools are helping users streamline their personal routines and professional workflows alike, marking a major step forward in the evolution of AI-powered productivity.
