ASUS Enters the High-End OLED Gaming Monitor Market with 480Hz Flagship

ASUS is launching two new glossy OLED gaming monitors : the ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWMG and XG32UCWG . According to the company, the release comes in response to strong demand from gamers who wanted more options following the success of last year’s ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG .

While glossy displays aren’t for everyone, personal preference often depends on the viewing environment. Users familiar with both glossy and matte screen coatings typically weigh the benefits of richer colors, deeper blacks, and sharper visuals offered by glossy panels against the potential downside — increased screen glare and reflections, especially in bright or well-lit spaces.

WOLED vs. OLED: What’s the Difference?

ASUS also clarifies that these new monitors use WOLED (White OLED) technology rather than standard RGB OLED. WOLED improves upon some of the limitations found in traditional OLED panels by using a single white light-emitting layer , combined with color filters to produce the full color spectrum. This approach helps enhance brightness and longevity, making it a popular choice for high-performance gaming monitors.

These new ASUS ROG OLED monitors use LG-developed WOLED panels , which help reduce issues like screen burn-in. The technology also benefits from LG’s Micro Lens Array (MLA) , which boosts brightness — a feature that likely plays a key role in enabling ASUS’ TrueBlack Glossy technology .

ASUS describes TrueBlack Glossy as combining a zero-haze optical layer with an advanced anti-reflective coating , designed to reduce glare. When paired with the MLA-enhanced brightness, this setup aims to make reflections less of an issue, even on a glossy surface.

Beyond the Display Tech

Both models are 32-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) OLED monitors , offering users the flexibility to switch to Full HD (FHD) resolution for faster refresh rates — ideal for competitive gaming.

  • The ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWMG supports 4K at 165Hz or FHD at 330Hz
  • The XG32UCWG offers 4K at 240Hz or FHD at 480Hz

ASUS is aiming for DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification , though full details like peak brightness and color gamut coverage haven’t been officially released yet.

As expected, both monitors include NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support to eliminate screen tearing. And thanks to OLED’s inherent speed, they deliver an ultra-fast 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time , ensuring crisp, blur-free visuals.

ASUS has designed these relatively large monitors to be as space-efficient as possible. Despite their 32-inch size, the new ROG Strix OLED models feature a reduced-depth chassis , taking up 30% less desk space than previous designs.

Each monitor comes equipped with:

  • Two HDMI 2.1 ports
  • One DisplayPort 1.4 input
  • USB DisplayPort Alt Mode support

They also include built-in KVM functionality , along with a dual-port USB hub that supports up to 15W of device charging — making them not only powerful displays but also versatile desktop companions.
