Apple Unveils Sound Therapy A New Music Collection for Deep Relaxation

If you’re one of the many users who turn to Apple Music Sleep for daily relaxation, here’s something new to explore: Apple has launched “Sound Therapy,” a wellness-focused audio collection created in collaboration with Universal Music Group (UMG) .

Designed to promote focus, relaxation, and better sleep , Sound Therapy integrates specially engineered sound waves into music from Universal’s vast catalog. The result is a unique listening experience that blends science and sound design to support mental well-being.

The collection includes extended, instrumental, and remixed versions of songs by popular artists such as Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, Kacey Musgraves, AURORA , and more. These tracks have been carefully reworked by a team of producers, scientists, and audio engineers to enhance their calming effects.

According to Apple, the project is based on scientific research and powered by Sollos , a proprietary audio technology developed by Universal. The goal is to use principles of psychoacoustics and cognitive science — the study of how sound affects the brain — to help listeners relax or sharpen their focus.

The Sound Therapy collection is organized into three main categories: Focus , Relax , and Sleep . Each category uses specially enhanced audio techniques — such as auditory beats and colored noise — designed to influence brain activity and support mental well-being.

  • Relax : Features theta waves, known to help calm the mind and reduce stress.
  • Sleep : Uses delta waves and pink noise (which mimics natural sounds like rain or wind) to encourage deeper rest.
  • Focus : Includes gamma waves and white noise with rhythmic whooshing effects that may enhance concentration and mental clarity.

Apple explains that the Focus playlist leverages gamma auditory beats to boost cognitive performance, while white noise helps block out distractions. In the Sleep category, delta beats and pink noise function similarly to white noise but incorporate soothing natural sounds like ocean waves and rainfall.

This new wellness-focused offering arrives shortly after Apple launched a “Viral Songs” playlist featuring popular tracks from TikTok and other trending platforms.

For best results, Apple recommends listening to Sound Therapy for at least 20 minutes in a quiet space or with headphones. That said, it also notes that the experience is not intended as a medical treatment , but rather as a tool for relaxation and focus
